Paget Rangers triumphed by one goal to nil over a determined Chelmsley Town at Pack Meadow.
The Bears made four changes to the side beaten by Uttoxeter Town, with Ryan Walker and Troy Wallen making their debuts in place of Dave Yonwin and Billy Fagg, Anton Astley replacing the injured Craig Evans and Myles Brown in place of Nathan Corry.
The first half was a very cagey affair with it apparent that neither side wanted to lose this local derby fixture. Chelmsley potentially edged the first 45 with the majority of the attacking play, however Paget were comfortable in possession without really creating any clear cut chances.
In the second half Paget started the brighter and were duly rewarded in the 53rd minute when Ryan Walker was played through and slotted the ball past Kelly in the Chelmsley goal.
Jason Lanns then brought on Billy Fagg and Dave Yonwin and it was the former who spurned several glorious chances to extend the Bears lead. First Fagg shot over when presented with an almost open goal, before a subsequent effort was smashed against the cross bar. Then Fagg had another chance, the ball fizzing to him off a deflection and narrowly being placed wide.
Paget’s profligacy in front of goal could have cost them when Chelmsley created their best chance of the game. Dominic Oliver receiving the ball on the edge of the penalty area and unleashing a fierce drive that clipped the Bears crossbar with Benton beaten.
Paget then had one more chance to seal the points, Dave Yonwin’s dipping effort flashing narrowly wide of the post.
Chelmlsey tried to pile on the pressure, but the Bears’ rear-guard held firm to wrap up another vital three points at the start of the season.
