Paget Rangers 3-1 NKF Burbage (Midland Football League 1st Division)
Paget Rangers continued their recent upturn in form with a comfortable victory over high-flying NKF Burbage at Coles Lane on Tuesday night. The Bears showed their intent from the off and new signing, Fraser Doyle, was brought down in the penalty area for an early spot kick for Paget. Ross Dempster made no mistake from the spot to put Paget ahead. On 11 minutes it was 2-0 to the Bears. A counter attacking move saw captain, Craig Evans spot the Burbage keeper off his line. Evans’ dipping shot from 25 yards flew into the net to put Paget firmly in control. Paget were happy to let their opponents have the ball and use the pace of wingers Kory Burke and Nathan Corry to create an effective counter attack. Corry had a great chance when played through but shot wide, before Dempster fired over. Burbage continued to be profligate in possession and were punished once again. Another counter attack by Paget saw Dempster clean through on goal, his low shot beating the keeper to put Paget three goals to the good before the half-time interval.
In the second half NKF Burbage came out intent to reduce the arrears but were on the whole restricted to long range efforts or moves which resulted in comfortable saves for Conal Dowling in the Paget goal. NKF Burbage did get a consolation goal worthy of their endeavour in second half stoppage time when Jake Brown beat Dowling from close range. Paget managed to close out the game well however and showed good game management to secure a 3-1 victory which moves the Bears back into the top 10.
