Paget Rangers slipped to a narrow one goal defeat at Staffordshire side Brocton on Tuesday night. The Bears, fielding a much changed side, were left to rue missed chances when a late goal from Brocton substitute Jethro Jarrett sealed the points for the hosts.
Paget started the brightest with Morris deployed as an unorthodox centre forward to partner the returning Danny Carter, Morris was winning the aerial battle and found Carter who’s scuffed effort found the targert but didn’t trouble Wiggins in the Brocton goal.
Brocton however were causing Paget problems on the break and in the thirteenth minute Curtis Shiels was cautioned after hauling down the Brocton forward who was through on goal.
As play progressed Brocton grew further into the game and they were unlucky not to take the lead when an excellent ball across from Kimmins evaded the entire Badgers’ attack with the Paget defence beaten.
Just before half time Carter, who’s pace and trickery was creating uncertainty and panic at the back for Brocton, was let down by his first touch when through on goal, another chance wasted for the Bears.
Half Time: Brocton 0-0 Paget Rangers
The second half continued in frenetic fashion and a crisp long range effort from Dean Morris narrowly cleared the Brocton bar. Brocton continued to counter and great run and cross from Wilson was met by Kimmins who’s effort cleared the crossbar.
Both sides began to ring the changes in the search of a winner. First Morris saw a goalbound headed effort cleared off the line by Scott, before Jack Weldon for the hosts hit a rasping effort over.
Paget then went very close when a corner was headed onto the crossbar by Hughes and the rebound sent narrowly wide. Paget would pay for not taking their chances though in the 88th minute, when a close range header from a set-piece by Jethro Jarrett found the back of the net and despite Paget appeals for impeding on Benton, the goal was given.
Final Score: Brocton 1-0 Paget Rangers
