Please Donate to Jamie Hunter!

Everyone at Paget Rangers Football Club is sad to hear the news about Jamie, we wish Jamie and his family the best. If you would like to donate, see the details below:

From the JustGiving donation page:

“Please help us to raise £100,000 for Jamie Hunter.

Jamie has been diagnosed with an advanced form of liver cancer for which there is no cure.

His firstborn is due at the end of May.

In March 2020, at the age of just 38, our beloved friend Jamie Hunter was given a devastating prognosis. Baby Hunter is due at the end of May but in the hope that Jamie has the chance to see and cuddle his baby, then the decision has been made to deliver the baby early on May 10th.

As if life isn’t cruel enough, Beccy may have to face childbirth without Jamie, as his health is deteriorating every day.

For those of you who know Jamie, you will know how much he has always wanted a family of his own. He has met his true love in Beccy Flint and just when everything seemed to be falling into place, they have been dealt the most painful blow.

Jamie will never be able to celebrate his baby’s first birthday, teach them to ride a bike and learn to swim or be there for their first day at school.

All of these are the things that we take for granted.

It’s an awfully bleak situation, but Jamie will be the first to tell you that this isn’t over just yet.

Jamie is also a huge Manchester United fan with a massive heart, who has dedicated his life to football and teaching. As a P.E teacher at John Wilmott School in Sutton Coldfield, he has touched so many lives and has been an outstanding role model, developing young people through all walks of life.

There are so many amazing things to say about Jamie, that no words can do him justice.

Jamie joined Sutton United Football Club as a teenager and as a manager and coach; he has taken teams from 6/7 years of age all the way through to adult football. Jamie loved this so much he did it twice!

Alongside his amazing coaching efforts he also played for the clubs first team. A commanding centre back with a decent touch for a big lad… ha!

After a number of successful years, he decided to stop playing in 2018, turning his attention to coaching adult’s football.

The money that is raised will go towards supporting Jamie’s care, his family and Baby Hunter.

A donation will also be made to John Taylor Hospice who have been amazing in providing care for Jamie and Beccy to this date.

We will be organising a calendar of planned events over the next year which will include: football tournaments, charity football matches, running & cycling challenges and many other events bringing Jamie’s whole extended family together!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read Jamie’s story.

Best Wishes Phil Taylor and Chad Duggan x x x”

Consortium Completes Paget Rangers Takeover

Paget Rangers and Birmingham St. George's to Merge

Consortium Completes Paget Rangers Takeover

A consortium led by James Parker has completed its takeover of Paget Rangers Football Club replacing the previous board. James Parker becomes the club’s new Chairman and he will now set about formalising the new boardroom structure. The consortium is composed of ten local businessmen and these will work alongside the existing volunteers and committee members to continue to drive Paget Rangers forward.

As part of the takeover, Paget Rangers Football Club and Birmingham St George’s Junior Football Club have merged with immediate effect. This move will see all of Birmingham St George’s existing junior teams come under the Paget Rangers banner in both the JPL and MJPL. As a result, from next season, Paget Rangers will be fielding a youth team in every age group from U7s to U19s as well as an open age adult team in the Midland Football League. The new structure will also develop girls teams and a women’s team in the very near future. It is hoped that Paget Rangers Football Club will be able to field two sides in every junior age group.

The new consortium have moved quickly to appoint coaches to various roles with the first team, James Parker himself will be Manager, ably assisted by Dwight Blake, with Mark Robinson as Matchday Coach and former professional footballer Courtney Pitt as Head Coach. The First Team Physio and Strength and Conditioning Coach is Rob Francis, whilst Martin Gethin has been appointed as Fitness Coach. The important role of Club Welfare Officer is to be shared between Sam Newbold and Michelle Parker.

Finally the new consortium felt it was extremely important to recognise the hard work, commitment and dedication of those who had helped to get Paget Rangers to where it is today. The consortium have therefore appointed former Chairman, Matthew Dainty, to the honorary role of Club President. Matthew will continue to have a strong say and influence on the Club’s board and decision making process as well as offering guidance and support as the club continues to develop and progress. Matthew’s role will ensure that the Club’s traditional values and heritage are at the forefront of everyone’s mind going forward as Paget Rangers Football Club looks to establish itself as one of the leading football clubs in the North Birmingham area.

Match Report:- Paget Rangers 6-2 NKF Burbage

Bears Thrash Burbage To Return To Winning Ways

Paget Rangers continued their phenomenal home form with a 6-2 demolition of NKF Burbage at Coles Lane.

The Bears attacked with intent, determined to make up for the August Bank Holiday loss at Atherstone Town, and took the lead in the 13th minute when Daniel Elwell, shot across Burbage keeper Jack Anderson and into the roof of the net. It was two-nil to the Bears just before half-time when the impressive Callum Burston-Keeley outpaced Burbage’s Josh Kind and beat Anderson at his near post.

Five minutes into the second half and Paget extended their lead further. Burston-Keeley snatching the ball from the feat of Anderson and stabbing the ball home into the unguarded net. Paget sealed the game in the 54th minute when Daniel Elwell got his second of the game from close range. In the 55th minute NKF Burbage pulled a goal back from a corner when Jack Sutherland headed home. Paget weren’t finished however and substitute Daniel Carter beat the offside trap to score the Bears 5th goal of the game in the 76th minute shooting low into the bottom corner. In the 89th minute Daniel Carter grabbed his second poking the ball home from close range after a goalmouth scramble. Burbage grabbed a consolation goal through Andrei Graur in the 2nd minute of added time to give a final score of Paget Rangers 6-2 NKF Burbage.

Match Report:- Paget Rangers 5-1 Ashby Ivanhoe

Bears Begin New Season In Fine Style

Paget Rangers began the 2019/20 MFL Division 1 season in fine style by despatching of league newcomers, Ashby Ivanhoe, by five goals to one.

The match started with the visitors dominating possession and if it wasn’t for their profligacy in front of goal, Ivanhoe could have taken an early lead.

As the half wore on, Paget grew more into the game and began to create the clearer cut chances. First Billy Fagg cut in from the left hand side and after beating two defenders saw his effort go over the bar. Next Daniel Elwell swivelled neatly on the ball and saw a rasping right-footed drive narrowly go over. In the 34th minute, Paget had the lead. Some neat build up play found Elwell on the edge of the box and his left footed shot beat Dyche in the Ashby Ivanhoe goal to put the Bears one nil to the good. The lead wasn’t to last long. On 42 minutes, Paget conceded a corner, and before the ball was crossed in, Aaron Harper-Bailey was adjudged to have fouled an Ivanhoe forward and a penalty was subsequently award. Minshull’s spot kick left Paget ‘keeper Hayward with no chance and the scores were tied at the interval.

The second half started with Ashby Ivanhoe clearly being fired up following their equaliser and Paget were indebted to ‘keeper Brad Hayward for some magnificent saves in maintaining parity. First a stinging shot from Ivanhoe number 9, Kerr Horn, was superbly tipped over, before another fierce shot was somehow tipped wide. These saves were to prove crucial as the match progressed along with some tactical substitutions made by Bears’ manager, Matt Seeley. First though a superb counter attack saw Callum Burston-Keeley break free and round the Ivanhoe keeper only to see his effort hit the side netting with others well placed to tap the ball in. Sam Fitzgerald, Jeorge Smith and Daniel Carter were all brought on and their energy and freshness paid dividends for Paget. On 69 minutes, Carter beat the offside trap and chipped Dyche to put the Bears 2-1 up. Another slick build up play saw the energetic Elwell played through and he beat Dyche low down from an acute angle to put the Bears 3-1 to the good. It was 4-1 on 88 minutes, great short, sharp passing from Fagg, Smith and Carter saw the latter played through on goal and the veteran scorer made no mistake. There was still time for a Paget fifth. Carter was felled in the box by Dyche and stepped up to convert the spot kick to seal himself a 21 minute hattrick and Paget three points on the opening game of the season.

Paget Line-Up: – Hayward, A.Brown, M.Brown, Cullen, Crowley ©, Harper-Bailey (Fitzgerald 53), Burston-Keeley (Smith 60), Mullan, Elwell, Gibson (Carter 53), Fagg.

Subs not used:- Hancox, Hughes

Matt Seeley Appointed New Paget Rangers Manager

Ex-Player Rejoins The Bears as Manager

Paget Rangers have today confirmed the appointment of Matt Seeley as 1st team manager with immediate effect.

Matt, who was part of Paget’s double winning side in the 2016/17 season returns to the club after a hugely successful spell as manager at Alcester Town, where he guided them to the MFL Division 3 title last season.

Seeley will be joined in the dug out by another familiar face to Bears supporters with Paget centurion, Craig Gasiewski, joining him as assistant manager.

Paget Rangers Chairman, Matthew Dainty, said: ‘After the departure of Jason Lanns it was important that we moved quickly to bring in a new management team ahead of the pre-season programme. Matt and Craig came across superbly in their interview and their clear enthusiasm, passion and will to win was obvious from the start. As a Board we also felt it was important that the new management team had a good understanding of what Paget Rangers is all about and how we operate so that they can continue the great work of the previous management team. As both are former Paget players we know they will be able to hit the ground running when pre-season training commences next week. We are absolutely delighted to have them on board and we can now look forward to an exciting 2019/20 season.’

Due to an overwhelming response rate and an exceptional number of applications, it has been decided to close the window for applications for the Paget Rangers 1st Team Manager vacancy with immediate effect.

The Paget Rangers committee would like to place on record their thanks to all the applicants. We are overwhelmed with the response and quality of applications and will be in touch with each applicant in due course.

Club Statement:- Lanns Departs Coles Lane

Jason Lanns Leaves Paget Rangers

Paget Rangers can confirm that manager Jason Lanns has today departed the Bears to take up the vacant managerial post at Midland Football League Premier Division side, Heather St. John’s.

Lanns, who joined Paget Rangers in October 2014 guided Paget to a league and cup double in 2016/17 before establishing the Bears at Midland Football League Division 1 level, and leaves the club with a win rate in excess of 50% from his 208 competitive games in charge.

Paget Rangers Chairman Matthew Dainty said: ‘Whilst we are all deeply saddened to see Jason leave, he leaves on good terms and with our best wishes for the future. We would like to thank him for his enthusiasm, dedication and passion throughout his time at the club, as well as for his immense efforts in establishing the football club at a level for which we can all be proud, whilst operating with no playing budget whatsoever. The progress, development and expansion of the club over the past few seasons is a testament to Jason and his backroom staff’s tenure and whoever follows in his footsteps will certainly have some big shoes to fill.

A further statement on applications for the vacant managerial position will be made in due course.
