FA To Introduce Sin Bins Next Season

Temporary Dismissals Will Be Issued For Dissent

As you may or may not be aware the 2019/20 season will see the introduction of ‘Sin Bins’ for all Yellow Cards issued for Dissent only. This initiative has been brought in by the F.A. and will be introduced into all Grassroots Football under the control of County F.A. Associations.

The initiative will be in place for all MFL League games and all Cup Competitions.

Here are a few guidelines on how it will work……

  • Sin Binnings will last for a period of 10 minutes actual playing time.
  • The match Official will administer a Yellow Card and point to the touchline.
  • A Sin Binned player can return to the field of play after the ten minute period or can be substituted by the Manager after the same period of time.
  • A player who has served his 10 minutes will be waved back onto the field of play by the Match Official whilst the game is active ( the same as any player who has been off for an injury).
  • In the case of a Goalkeeper being Sin Binned, an outfield player must take over his position for the ten minute period. On completing his Sin Bin period, the Goalkeeper must re-enter the field of play as an outfield player, until which time there is a stoppage in play enabling him to change position.
  • Sin Binned players will be asked to sit on their own teams substitute bench during the 10 minutes.
  • The Match Official(s) will be the sole Administrator of the Sin Bin time period.
  • Players in the Sin Bin are allowed to Warm-Up during the 10 minute period.
  • A player receiving TWO Yellow Cards for DISSENT in the same game, will NOT be allowed to re-enter the field of play again for the remainder of the game. However the Manager will be allowed to put on a substitute after the 10 minutes has elapsed.
  • Yellow Cards for DISSENT will be reported to the County F.A. and will be used in the ‘Totting Up’ process for Individual Players and Clubs.
  • In F.A.Competitions two Yellow Cards for DISSENT in the same Competition will result in a 1 Game Ban for the individual.
  • A Player receiving one DISSENT Yellow Card in any game will NOT receive a £10.00 Administration Fine from the County F.A.. However a player who receives TWO DISSENT Yellows in a game will be fined £25.00.
  • If a team has 5 or more players in the Sin Bin at any one time, therefore falling below the 7 player threshold, the game will continue if the players are able to return to the game after their Sin Bin period(s).

Match Preview:- Nuneaton Griff (H)

The Bears Are Back In Action This Saturday

After another week off thanks to no scheduled fixture, the Bears are back in MFL action this Saturday when we are at home to Nuneaton Griff (KO 3pm).

It is fair to say that this match is an absolutely crucial one for Nuneaton Griff in their battle to avoid relegation. Recent wins by fellow relegation contenders Littleton and Heath Hayes has heaped the pressure on the Heartlanders and the Griff will be going all out to secure the three points and a vital win at Coles Lane on Saturday. Nuneaton Griff have been boosted by the arrivals of Dave Stringer and Russell Dodds to the dugout and visit Paget in 19th position with 14 points from their 32 league matches so far and 5 points from safety with just four league games remaining.

The Bears come into the match on the back of some inconsistent form not helped by the stop-start nature of Paget’s fixtures since the turn of the year. Paget have failed to win a home game since the 3-0 victory over Stapenhill on December 8th and last time out lost 3-1 at home to a rejuvenated Littleton. Paget can take heart from a 6-0 victory on the road a week prior at Heath Hayes and will be looking to get a consistent run of positive results going as we head into the final month of the season, with a top 8 finish still a distinct possibility.

Paget Rangers Chairman Matthew Dainty said: ‘ I am delighted to confirm the appointment of Seb Hamilton as the manager of our new Under 19s Development Squad ahead of the 2019/20 MJPL Midweek Floodlit Under 19s league season. Seb’s vision, values and beliefs fit in perfectly with the philosophies of Paget Rangers Football Club. Seb has been very successful in the running of our Birmingham Communities League side, Paget Elite, this season and we all look forward to continuing this progress with our new Under 19s Development team. The Under 19s side has been set up to help develop our first team players of the future and I have no doubt that Seb and his coaching staff can help Paget Rangers to become one of the leading clubs for nurturing young talent in the North Birmingham area.’

Paget Rangers U19s Manager Seb Hamilton said: ‘Im delighted to be given the opportunity to manage Paget next season in the MJPL Under 19 Midweek Floodlit League. Managing the Paget Elite team this season has been amazing and helped me develop as a manager, so when the Chairman (Matthew Dainty) and myself spoke about managing the development team the answer was yes straight away. We know our first season is going to be difficult but we are looking forward to the challenge and testing ourselves against some very good well established clubs”

Information on trial dates and training sessions for the new team will be posted on the Paget Rangers website and on the Club’s Twitter account in due course.

Match Report: Heath Hayes 0-6 Paget Rangers

Rampant Bears Dominate On The Road

Paget Rangers returned to winning ways in style with a six-nil demolition of Heath Hayes at their Coppice Colliery ground.

The Bears attacked from the off with an obvious intent to make up for recent disappointing results and created the first chance of the game fell to Paget in the 3rd minute as Ross Dempster saw his shot blocked and Michael Wright fired narrowly wide. Paget then gave away a free kick on the edge of the box and a superb save from Paget ‘keeper Conal Dowling saw the ball tipped onto the post, from the rebound a goalbound Heath Hayes effort was hacked off the line by Paget defender Luke Hennessy. Paget launched forward in search of the opening and some intricate football found Michael Wright who’s shot from 10 yards bounced off the post and into the net to give the Bears the lead. Paget now had the initiative and took the game by the scruff of the neck. It was 2-0 on 15 minutes when Ross Dempster’s curling effort found the bottom corner. Dempster was unlucky not to add his second and Paget’s third moments later when a superb save from Heath Hayes goalkeeper Jon Clough saw a vicious drive tipped round the post. Heath Hayes were still in the game and efforts from Sam Melia and Neil Grainger were well blocked or cleared by the Paget defence boosted by the return of Matt Powell.

In the second half Paget dictated the vast majority of play with Billy Fagg particularly impressive with a wide range of passing from the heart of the Bears midfield. It didn’t take long for Paget to extend their lead and a square ball from Wright found Dempster unmarked to put Paget three goals ahead. Still Paget pushed forward sensing a significant improvement on goal difference could be earned and a superb run down the full length of the pitch by Paget left back, Taylor Byrne, was unfortunate not to end in a goal as his effort was well saved. Paget had their fourth on 71 minutes as Michael Wright, who had hounded the Heath Hayes defence all game, slotted the ball beyond Clough after good build up play. On 78 minutes it was 5-0. A stinging 20 yard thunderbolt from Jack Jenkins nestled in the top corner giving Clough no chance. On 85 minutes it could’ve been six. Paget hassled the Heath Hayes defence into another mistake and Nathan Corry chose to shoot from a tight angle, rather than squaring the ball to Wright who was free in the centre of the penalty area. Michael Wright wasn’t to be denied his hattrick however and Nathan Corry made up for his earlier missed shot by slotting the ball through to Wright who outpaced the defence and scored beyond Clough to send the travelling supporters into raptures as Paget ran riot in Staffordshire.

Paget’s next action is on Saturday 23rd March when the host Littleton at Coles Lane (ko 3pm) in a match which will also see the annual reunion for all former Paget Rangers players, officials and management. For more details on the Paget Rangers reunion please contact Paget Rangers Chairman, Matthew Dainty by emailing

Match Report: Paget Rangers 0-3 Leicester Road

Bears Beaten By High Flyers

Paget Rangers hopes of qualifying for next season’s FA Cup suffered another huge blow as the Bears fell to their fourth successive league defeat at the hands of high-flying Leicester Road.

Paget started the match on the front foot and could have taken the lead inside the first 2 minutes, Leicester Road skipper Callum Earls blocking Ross Dempster’s goal bound effort.

Leicester Road then took control and went ahead on 3 minutes after a lovely, flowing move – Dom Brennan finding Nuno Gomes on the right, who cut inside and crossed to the advancing Nat Kelly, who hit it first time on the volley with Liam Read on hand to slot in the rebound from close range. On 10 minutes an alert Brennan lobbed the advancing Paget keeper Conal Dowling but his effort was headed off the line by Luke Hennessy. On 24 minutes Leicester Road extended their lead, when Gomes again down the right cut inside and beat two defenders, but while his shot was slightly scuffed it again fell to Read and he buried it in the far left corner. Read and Brennan again combined well shortly after but a last ditch Paget block by Josh McPherson saved another goal and then Brennan also grazed the bar with a 25-yard half volley with the keeper well beaten. Leicester Road continued to press playing some intricate football on the Coles Lane 3g pitch and extended their lead further on 34 when Brennan threw a dummy that allowed Read to slide the ball under Conal Dowling for a clinical hat-trick.

Paget Rangers started the second half much brighter, looking to get back into the game and were handed a lifeline when Nuno Gomes was given a straight red card for Leicester Road after an off the ball incident saw Paget’s Taylor Byrne left in a heap on the ground. This allowed Paget to grow in to the contest more, but they failed to create any clear cut chances until the 84th minute when substitute Jack Jenkins was very unlucky to see his curling drive bounce out of the Leicester Road post with their keeper well beaten. There wasn’t to be a comeback for the Bears however and Leicester Road managed to close out the game for a well deserved three points.

Match Report: Paget Rangers 2-3 Heather St. John’s

League Leaders Escape With Three Points From Coles Lane

Paget Rangers were edged out by league leaders Heather St. John’s in a pulsating encounter at Coles Lane on Saturday.

The first chance of the game fell to the visitors when a long throw from Tom Weale was flicked on by Daniel Douglas to Dean Rathbone, whose close range effort was blocked. Paget soon responded and Fraser Doyle was allowed space to fire an effort narrowly over the crossbar. Heather tried to assert themselves on the game and took the lead when a long ball over the top saw Simeon Cobourne outpace the Paget defence and round an onrushing Conal Dowling to slot the ball into the unguarded net. Paget responded well and were unlucky not to be level immediately when Nkosi Mzungwana’s effort was well saved by Heather ‘keeper Billy Spink. The Bears exerted so concerted pressure and got their equaliser when prolific goalscorer Ross Dempster unleashed a scorcher of a curling effort from the edge of the box which left Spink well beaten. Shortly after Heather were given an opportunity to retake the lead. Taylor Byrne was somewhat harshly adjudged to have tripped Cobourne for a penalty. Up stepped Dean Rathbone for the visitors but his effort was well saved by Conal Dowling in the Paget goal.

The second half saw Heather start the brightest forcing an early corner. From the resulting corner kick Joe McNulty rose highest to head the league leaders back into the lead. Heather continued to look for a killer third goal as Paget dominated the most of the possession but the visitors looked dangerous on the break. So it was to prove as another long ball over the top found the pacey Cobourne who chipped Conal Dowling who had run off his line to try and close him down. The match wasn’t over however as Paget stuck to their game plan and their effort was rewarded when Fraser Doyle fired an effort into the bottom corner to give the Bears hope of an unlikely point. Paget continued to press and had a great chance for an equaliser when Ross Dempster headed wide despite being well placed. The final score ended three two to the visitors but Heather will feel fortunate to have extended their winning run to 14 consecutive games after an extremely tough test from a determined Paget side.

Match Report: Atherstone Town 2-0 Paget Rangers

Ten Man Paget Valiant In Defeat

Paget Rangers suffered their first league defeat on the road since the 8th of December, going down by two goals to nil at a high-flying Atherstone Town.

The match started evenly with both side trading chances, however the first glorious chance fell to Atherstone forward, Jake Woolley, who fired well over the bar when well-placed from a Ben Ashby cross. The next chance fell to Paget. A low cross from Fraser Doyle found Josh Hawker on the edge of the box, his side footed effort however was easily saved by Adders keeper Carl O’Neill. The course of the game changed on the half hour mark, Atherstone’s Nathan Haines and Paget’s Josh Hawker challenged for the ball in the centre circle, with the Atherstone player coming off the worst, and much to the shock of all from Paget, Hawker was shown a straight red card. It was now a case of holding on for the Bears and Paget managed to do so valiantly until the 43rd minute. First Conal Dowling produced a superb save from Ben Ashby, before Joshua Ruff shot wide. Then in the next attack, Jack Moss produced a great sliding tackle to prevent Adam Bilic an effort on goal, however the ball fell to an unmarked Joshua Ruff who fired beyond Dowling into the bottom corner.

The second half became a personal duel between the Atherstone attack and Conal Dowling in the Paget goal. Kyle Baxter’s effort was put behind for a corner before Darren Eggleton’s cross was cleared by Luke Hennessy, then the right back shot well wide. Next in the 58th minute Kieron Brehon played a superb low ball into the six yard box, Jake Woolley sliding in to stab the ball home to double the Adders lead. Still the hosts attacked, Jonathan Gould weaving around the Paget defence before seeing his effort well saved, then Jonathan Gould produced a cross from the left which found Woolley, the forward’s effort tamely reaching a thankful Dowling in the Paget goal. In the final 10 minutes Dowling was Paget’s saviour again, producing a superb double save to deny Joe Obi. Paget did have the final attack of the match however, Josh McPherson heading narrowly over the bar from a corner just before the referee blew for half-time. The Bears shouldn’t be too disheartened by this result however, playing for an hour with 10 men and with the Paget defence and in particular man of the match Paget keeper Conal Dowling producing a superb display against one of the division’s top sides.

Match Report: Cadbury Athletic 0-1 Paget Rangers

Dempster Penalty Seals Points At The Death

Paget Rangers produced one of their best performances of the season to come away from high-flying Cadbury Athletic’s, Triplex Ground, with the three points and a clean sheet on Saturday.

The game started in frenetic fashion with both Cadbury’s keeper, Stuart Parsons, and Paget stopper, Conal Dowling in inspired form. First Cadbury’s attacked down the left putting stand-in Paget right back Jem Mills under pressure, Mills however was equal to Alport’s probing runs and set up a superb counter attack led by Michael Wright. Wright crossing for Dempster who’s effort was narrowly over the bar. Next Fraser Doyle received the ball in the penalty area before shooting narrowly wide of the Cadbury goal. Cadbury’s pushed forward with target man Odane Barnes heading over Demitrius Smikle and Ben Alport saw efforts well saved. Paget began to dominate proceedings and possession with the midfield quartet of Jack Moss, Josh Hawker, Fraser Doyle and Mark Williams dictating the pace of the game. The Bears pressed from the front, with the hard-working Ross Dempster and Michael Wright forcing the Cadbury defence into errors however a sequence of corner opportunities were squandered before Barnes again shot wide for Cadbury’s when well placed.

In the second half Cadbury’s enjoyed far more of the possession and put Paget under unrelenting pressure for much of the second period. Taylor Byrne and Josh McPherson were excellent in defence, whilst Jack Jenkins, playing his third game at left back marshalled winger Matthew Warman effectively. Cadbury’s introduced to former Paget youth players in Jevaughni Robinson and Kennie Roberts as substitutes and the duo almost paid immediate dividends, Roberts feeding the ball to Robinson who broke the offside trap before firing inches wide.  In the 80th minute, Cadbury’s finally breached the Paget rear-guard, Robinson’s shot taking a vicious deflection off the back of Josh McPherson, Conal Dowling in the Paget goal however was able to adjust himself in mid-air to tip the ball over for a corner. It was Paget who were to have the final say however in the 3rd minute of stoppage time at the end of the 90, substitute Nathan Corry, who had returned from holiday at 3am that morning, ran with the ball at the Cadbury’s defence, instead of heading for the corner and wasting time as Paget looked to preserve a 0-0, he made for the penalty area, being dripped by Anthony Fitzmaurice. The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Up stepped in-form striker Ross Dempster to fire the ball home beyond a despairing Stuart Parsons to put the Bears ahead. It was Dempster’s tenth consecutive match scoring for Paget, extending his own club record. No sooner had Cadbury’s kicked off, the final whistle was blown and Paget had emerged victorious with a real smash and grab one nil win to move up to 7th place in the table.

Ross Dempster

Ross Dempster Breaks Paget Record

Paget Forward Breaks Goalscoring Record

Congratulations go to Ross Dempster following the Rocester game as the Paget forward broke the Club’s consecutive goal record.

The personal trainer netted his ninth goal in a row as the Bears drew 2-2 at home to Rocester in the Total Motion Midland Football League Division One. Dempster overtook Daniel Zouch who held the record for six years, after scoring consecutively eight teams in the 2012/13 season.

Dempster joined the Wee Gers in 2016/17 season scoring on his debut against Redditch Borough in MFL Division 2. This season the 28-year-old has nailed down a first team place, and is undoubtedly one of the first names on the team sheet due to a current goal tally of 18 goals from 22 games.

So how did Dempster do it?

Game One – Dempster opens the scoring away to Littleton, in a MFL Division One fixture, in the 63rd before being replaced by Fraiser Doyle.

Game Two – Scoring either side of half-time, Dempster’s efforts ensure a 2-2 draw in the Birmingham Midweek Floodlit Cup with Paget going through on penalties. (Dempster was substituted before the penalty shoot out)

Game Three – The first win in the run as Dempster scores three minutes into the first half and again three minutes before half-time, as Paget overcame NKF Burbage 3-1 at the Central Ground on Coles Lane.

Game Four – Rounding off a 3-0 win at home to Stapenhill, Dempster nets with 10 minutes to go accompanying Torryn Connolly and Ryan Walker on the scoresheet.

Game Five – Paget score three in seven minutes to blitz Nuneaton Griff, Nathan Corry opened the scoring in the 20th minute before Dempster scored in the 22nd and 27th minute. Jack Jenkins rounded off the scoring to give Paget a 4-0 win away at the Pingles Stadium.

Game Six – Providing a consolation goal Dempster scores in the 63rd minute as the Bears crash out of the Birmingham Midweek Floodlit Cup away at Tividale.

Game Seven – Finding the net just before half-time Dempster’s goal helps Paget secure a 3-1 win away at Uttoxeter Town just before Christmas.

Game Eight – Although it’s Boxing Day blues for the Bears, Dempster equals Zouch’s record with 55th minute strike in a 4-1 home defeat to Racing Club Warwick.

Game Nine – Continuing the streak and breaking the record, Dempster becomes the first Paget goalscorer of 2019 scoring in the 17th minute, and then again in the 72nd as the Bears draw 2-2 with Rocester.

Ross’ Reaction

On breaking the record, Dempster said: “I wasn’t aware of the record until a week ago, it’s nice to break it but it wasn’t something I focused too much on.

“Obviously scoring in nine consecutive game is a great achievement regardless of what level you play. I’m really pleased with my form and how I’ve been playing lately.

“Consistently has been key and obviously the lads have helped as we’re playing well at the moment.

“I’m not sure how long the record stood before but it’s nice to have a record at the Club and I’m going to continue to keep on going.”

Match Preview:- Uttoxeter Town (A)

Bears Looking To Continue Good League Form

Paget Rangers return to league action looking to continue their recent good form when they travel to fellow mid-table side Uttoxeter Town. The Bears will be looking to make amends for the 4-1 reverse Paget suffered at the hands of Uttoxeter back in August.

Uttoxeter have solidly established themselves in the middle of the Midland Football League 1st Division table and will be looking to push on upwards towards the FA Cup spots in the 2nd half of the campaign. Their 24 games in all competitions to date has yielded 10 wins, 4 draws and 10 defeats, with 50 goals scored and 42 conceded. Uttoxeter currently sit in 10th position, one place and two points behind Paget however Uttoxeter do have three games in hand on the Bears. After having no fixture last weekend, Uttoxeter’s most recent outing was a 3-1 victory away at Coventry Copsewood.

Match Report:- Nuneaton Griff 0-4 Paget Rangers

100 Wins Not Out For Jason Lanns

Paget Rangers secured their 100th competitive win under manager Jason Lanns in a comfortable victory over Midland Football League 1st Division strugglers Nuneaton Griff.

On a day which will be remembered for the atrocious weather conditions, it was Paget who secured the three points after a three goal blitz during a seven minute spell in the first half saw off a gritty Nuneaton Griff side. The match opened in a fairly even fashion as both teams struggled to come to terms with the conditions, the match was end to end but with neither side testing the other’s keeper until Paget managed to break the deadlock in the twenty-first minute. The ball was chased down by Mark Williams and passed to Torryn Connolly who’s shot was parried by Frazer Mullis in the Griff goal into the path of Paget forward Nathan Corry who’s low shot found the bottom corner.

Two minutes later and Paget pressed again, hounding the Nuneaton Griff defence into mistakes, and allowing a Paget cross into the area which reached in-form striker Ross Dempster who made no mistake to put Paget two goals to the good.

In the 28th minute it was three nil to the Bears. A Paget corner found the head of Captain Craig Evans, his goal-bound effort was blocked but fell to Dempster on the edge of the penalty area who unleashed a vicious drive into the top corner of the net.

After this goal flurry the match again evened itself out and were it for better finishing, the hosts could have pulled a goal back as Middleton shot high and wide.

Nuneaton Griff started the second half brightly and George Brindley went close with a cross-cum-shot which glanced past the far post with Paget keeper Conal Dowling a spectator. Griff continued to press but this played into Paget’s hands, the Bears pace and high-pressing game creating a number of chances, twice Evans shot narrowly over meanwhile, Griff had Mullis to thank for saves from a hat-trick seeking Dempster and an ambitious shot from substitute Kory Burke. Griff rung the changes and a superb effort from George Brindley was cleared by Paget defender Matt Powell as the game continued to flow from one end to the other. It was Paget who grabbed the final goal and their fourth when substitute Jack Jenkins was on the end of a fine team move in the 86th minute to fire low past a despairing Mullis in the Griff goal.

Paget thoroughly deserved this victory but were made to work hard for it in difficult conditions by a determined Nuneaton Griff side.

Paget On The Road This Saturday

Paget Rangers are back on the road this Saturday in the Total Motion Midland Football League with a trip to Nuneaton Griff (KO 3pm).

It is fair to say that the Heartlanders haven’t enjoyed the best of seasons to date and find themselves in 18th position with 2 wins and 1 draw from their eighteen league games so far. After suffering ten consecutive defeats, a much changed Griff side secured a vital 2-0 victory over fellow strugglers Littleton and they will no doubt be looking to build on that momentum this weekend.
