Match Preview:- Nuneaton Griff (H)

The Bears Are Back In Action This Saturday

After another week off thanks to no scheduled fixture, the Bears are back in MFL action this Saturday when we are at home to Nuneaton Griff (KO 3pm).

It is fair to say that this match is an absolutely crucial one for Nuneaton Griff in their battle to avoid relegation. Recent wins by fellow relegation contenders Littleton and Heath Hayes has heaped the pressure on the Heartlanders and the Griff will be going all out to secure the three points and a vital win at Coles Lane on Saturday. Nuneaton Griff have been boosted by the arrivals of Dave Stringer and Russell Dodds to the dugout and visit Paget in 19th position with 14 points from their 32 league matches so far and 5 points from safety with just four league games remaining.

The Bears come into the match on the back of some inconsistent form not helped by the stop-start nature of Paget’s fixtures since the turn of the year. Paget have failed to win a home game since the 3-0 victory over Stapenhill on December 8th and last time out lost 3-1 at home to a rejuvenated Littleton. Paget can take heart from a 6-0 victory on the road a week prior at Heath Hayes and will be looking to get a consistent run of positive results going as we head into the final month of the season, with a top 8 finish still a distinct possibility.

Bears Looking To Continue Good League Form

Paget Rangers return to league action looking to continue their recent good form when they travel to fellow mid-table side Uttoxeter Town. The Bears will be looking to make amends for the 4-1 reverse Paget suffered at the hands of Uttoxeter back in August.

Uttoxeter have solidly established themselves in the middle of the Midland Football League 1st Division table and will be looking to push on upwards towards the FA Cup spots in the 2nd half of the campaign. Their 24 games in all competitions to date has yielded 10 wins, 4 draws and 10 defeats, with 50 goals scored and 42 conceded. Uttoxeter currently sit in 10th position, one place and two points behind Paget however Uttoxeter do have three games in hand on the Bears. After having no fixture last weekend, Uttoxeter’s most recent outing was a 3-1 victory away at Coventry Copsewood.

Paget will be looking to bounce back from the disappointing Midweek Floodlit Cup defeat to Tividale in order to continue an impressive run of league form which has seen the Bears climb to 9th place in the table. A win for Paget could push them within touching distance of the top 6 and Paget will again be looking to continue a run of 11 games in which the Bears have scored at least one goal.

Paget On The Road This Saturday

Paget Rangers are back on the road this Saturday in the Total Motion Midland Football League with a trip to Nuneaton Griff (KO 3pm).

It is fair to say that the Heartlanders haven’t enjoyed the best of seasons to date and find themselves in 18th position with 2 wins and 1 draw from their eighteen league games so far. After suffering ten consecutive defeats, a much changed Griff side secured a vital 2-0 victory over fellow strugglers Littleton and they will no doubt be looking to build on that momentum this weekend.

The Bears will be looking for a repeat of last season’s result and performance at the Pingles, where Paget came away with the three points thanks to a Ryan Conlon hat-trick.

Match Preview: Paget Rangers vs Hinckley AFC

On Tuesday we welcome Hinckley AFC, a side Paget faced early in the season when the Bears, playing the majority of the game with ten men, succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at St. John’s Park. Since then much has changed for the visitors.

First manager Carl Abbott left to join Market Drayton (now at Quorn) and was replaced by non-league legend Dale Belford in the managerial hot-seat. Belford’s reign was short-lived however and Hinckley visit Church Road with Richard Lavery fulfilling a player/interim manager’s role.

Hinckley will be looking forward to getting back to some playing action at last this coming Tuesday, as other than a 5-0 FA Vase defeat at favourites Marske United, Hinckley haven’t played a game since Boxing Day. This however has allowed interim manager Lavery, to make a host of new signings ahead of the fixture against the Bears, meaning we are facing somewhat of an unknown quantity.

Hinckley currently sit proudly in the reformed Paget Rangers’ record books, courtesy of recording our highest attendance, 311, when they visited Church Road last season in an FA Vase 2nd Round proper clash, which Hinckley ultimately won 4-1.

As has been the case since their formation, Hinckley are again challenging at the top end of the Midland Football League 1st Division and come into this encounter in 8th position with 42 points from their 21 games so far. Paget are on a good run of form, winning 5 of their last 6 league games and currently sit 11th with 37 points from their 26 games.

Hinckley AFC- Recent Results:
25/11/17 – Brocton 1-2 Hinckley AFC (MFL 1)

23/12/17 – Lichfield City 2-2 Hinckley AFC (MFL 1)
26/12/17 – Hinckley AFC 3-4 Heather St. Johns (MFL 1)
13/01/18 – Marske United 5-0 Hinckley AFC (FA Vase)

We’ve Met Before:
13/11/16 – Paget Rangers 1-4 Hinckley AFC (FA Vase) Attendance 311
26/08/17 – Hinckley AFC 3-1 Paget Rangers (MFL 1) Attendance 174

The match is therefore shaping up to be a ‘must see’ event as the Bears look to get one over one of the top sides in the Division.

Admission to spectators is priced at £5 Adults, £3 concessions and FREE for under 16s. Paget’s 40-page programme ‘The Bear Necessities’ will be on sale for £1 and the Kitchen and Bar will be open throughout.

Paget Rangers vs Hinckley AFC (MFL 1st Division) – Tuesday 30th January 2018, kick off 7:30pm.

Match Preview: Lichfield City vs Paget Rangers

The Bears travel to 10th placed Lichfield City for a league clash on Saturday 27th January (KO 3pm).

In terms of current form Lichfield’s last 6 games in all competitions have produced 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats. Lichfield’s three victories include a 3-1 win over Pershore Town in their previous outing, a 3-2 win away at high-flying Studley and a 1-0 success on Boxing Day at Nuneaton Griff. Lichfield’s two defeats came in a league fixture at home to leaders Walsall Wood (1-5) and away at Hednesford Town (0-5) in the Staffordshire Senior Cup, meanwhile the one draw was a high scoring affair (2-2) at home to Hinckley AFC.

Paget’s current form shows from the least 6 games, 5 wins for the Bears and one defeat. The Bears 5 victories were against; Chelmsley Town (2-0), Cadbury Athletic (4-0), Stafford Town (4-1), Tividale (1-0) and Coventry Alvis (2-0), meanwhile the only defeat was the last minute heartbreak against league leaders Walsall Wood (2-3).

In terms of Lichfield’s hot-shots, Daniel Griffiths is leading the way in the goalscoring charts with 14 goals to his name so far this season, whilst there will be a familiar face for Bears supporters in the opposition line up in for Paget midfielder Tom Howard who has featured in 30 of Lichfield’s 32 games so far this season. Paget have boasted a mean defence in recent games with 5 clean sheets from the Bears last 8 outings, however the last meeting between the two sides, earlier this season, ended in a 3-3 draw.

The two sides met a Chruch Road earlier in the season in MFL Division 1 action with the contest ending in a 3-3 draw. Lichfield took a two goal lead through Tom Green and Daniel Griffiths, before Daniel Carter reduced the arrears for the Bears before half time. Lichfield restored their two goal advantage in the 73rd minute through Griffiths, before a stunning strike from Kurt White and a Daniel Carter leveller gave Paget a share of the spoils in front of a crowd of 83 spectators. Lichfield currently sit in 10th position in the MFL 1st Division with 39 points from their 24 league games, whilst the Bears sit in 11th with 34 points from 25 games.

Lichfield play at The City Ground, Brownsfield Road (off Eastern Avenue), Lichfield, Staffordshire, WS13 6AY
